8 Things I’m Loving Right Now
I don’t know about you but personally it feels like life outside my fours walls is getting more intense. People are protesting, there’s still a lot of uncertainty with how we will move forward and on top of all that the story of Ahmaud Arbery, an unarmed black man, who was gunned down while jogging in his own neighborhood and his murders have yet to be charged has been brought to the attention of all of us. A heavy reminder of how far we still have to go even in unprecedented times. If you’re able please take a moment to do some good and sign his petition demanding that these men be brought to trial. On that note of doing good I decided to start a new series here to share the things I’m currently loving to spread a little light in these darker times. It may be photos that have inspired me, books or articles I couldn’t pull myself away from, clothing I’m pretty sure I need to have, honestly anything and everything I’m digging at the moment. And I hope that when things feel heavy that this reminds you to look at and share the things that you’re loving, to share kindess and light.
1. Flowers in Bloom
If you watch my Instastories then you’ve been seeing a lot of flowers. To be honest I’m not entirely sure what inspired this photo series but ever since quarantine began I’ve been taking pictures of every flower I saw during my daily walks with Ana. It started as snapping pics of the most fragrant flowers along our usual route but has turned into a mini adventure. Every day Ana and I turn down new streets on the hunt to find flowers I haven’t already taken pictures of yet. It’s been a great excuse to spend just a little more time outside and hone my iPhone photography skills. What I really love is looking at the details afterwards, how the petals perfectly wrinkle or overlap and the designs their veins create.
2. Becoming: the Workbook
Keeping a journal, especially now, can help clear your mind but sometimes it can be difficult deciding where to start. What I love about Michelle Obama’s Becoming Workbook is that it gives you prompts on what to write about. It’s really given me the opportunity to dig into my past, capture some memories that I had almost forgotten, write down my hopes for my future and truly get more in touch with myself.
3. Vogue A Fashion Coloring Book
I can’t draw to save my life. No matter how I try, I just do not have the patience for it. So as an alternative I’ve found myself turning to coloring. What I love about Vogue Colors A to Z is that it’s taught me slow down, focus on the task at hand yet to be open and playful with colors in a way I normally wouldn’t in real life. Plus there’s no need to be perfect, if I color outside the lines no one has to know but me.
4. My Morning Routine
For the longest I have been wanting to slow down my morning routine. Usually I’m multitasking. I’d let my oatmeal cook on the stove while taking Ana out to pee then stuffing my face full of said oatmeal as I try to get dressed for work without spilling any on my outfit before rushing out the door. But no matter how hard I tried I just couldn’t manage to roll out of bed any earlier. I’ve always preferred staying in bed a little longer to having extra time to get ready. Now without my usual morning commute I have what feels like an abundance of time. I’ve been able to take Ana for a little morning walk, make myself oatmeal AND a chai latte, turn on my oil diffuser, sit on my couch and actually savor my breakfast before getting dressed. It’s honestly been transformative and I’m really loving this new routine.
4. Watching the Sun Set
Pre-quarantine my evenings would always seem to slip away from me. After work I’d let Ana out, hit the gym, shower, make dinner and usually collapse on the couch to scroll through god knows what on the internet meaning I often let sunset pass by unnoticed. Recently I’ve been setting an alarm for sunset then rushing up to my terrace to watch the sun dip below the horizon. When it’s too cold to be outside I’ll watch from the couch and enjoy the way it lights up my apartment in a perfect orange haze.
6. This Perfect Summer Dress
Every time I try to imagine what my first post quarantine day would look like I don’t get very far. To be perfectly honest I don’t want to get my hopes up only for them to be dashed because the reality is I doubt that I’ll really be able to enjoy much of anything the way I used to until I’m sure that there’s very little chance of me spreading or catching COVID. But when I saw this dress on Forever 21 I instantly imagined walking down the street with my friends, a cup of coffee in hand, laughing about all the silly things in our past and for a moment everything feels back to normal.
7. This Hilariously Chic Print
Go figure that as soon as I finalize my gallery wall I find this super cheeky print on Urban Outfitters. I’m not sure if it’s the fact that it’s leopards or because they’re decked out in berets and chains that makes me really love this print. I’m a seriously considering adding it to the wall, I just cant decide on what size.
8. This Perfect Green Tank Top
I can’t explain why but I have been obsessed with finding the perfect green tank top to wear this summer. Don’t get me wrong there are tons of green tank tops out there but I’m just so particular when it comes to buying tops. I wanted a top with a high neckline, thick enough material to not be see through, fitted so it wouldn’t billow over my pants when I inevitably tucked it in and lastly straps that would keep my bra concealed. A very tall order for what should be an easy piece to buy but I know what I like, what makes me feel confident and I refuse to spend money on a top that requires any fuss. After scouring every corner of the internet I finally stumbled upon this A New Day tank top from Target which checked every box and was only $8, talk about a steal! I’m really excited for all the green monochrome outfits to come plus a colored blocked look or two!
