Growing up with just an older brother to teach me the ways of the world, it was no surprise that I was a tomboy well into my teen years, and still a little bit to this day. That’s probably why I have such a love affair with all things menswear. Though I’m not as much of a tomboy as I was then, my upbringing definitely explains why I would rather reach for trousers and jeans over a skirt or dress any day. The great thing about menswear is it can still be chic and feminine when styled correctly. You want to find the right balance between man meets women for an interesting look that still plays to your body’s strengths. For some it may be a boxier style top or blazer, others looser fitting trousers and even something as simple as a boyfriend style accessories. The key is to find the balance that works best for your personal preferences.
An important exercise I conduct with my clients is to have them think about their muses, not only of the present but of the past as well. Those we idolized when we were younger helped to shape some of our preferences today. It’s important to note where your style has come from to help it to evolve to where you want it to be. See how else I’ve worn a menswear inspired look.
