Though the ground in Michigan is now covered in a mix of snow, slush and ice I still find myself trying to get the most out of what I would consider my warmer season wear. Now typically I’m not one to run and grab a dress or skirt, I’m still holding on to my rebellious tomboy teen years, I couldn’t help but wear my on trend olive wrap skirt one last time while the weather was still decent. Just because it’s getting colder, especially up here in what feels like Antarctica, doesn’t mean you can’t wear your favorite skirt, you just have to get a little creative with how to make it seasonally friendly. Wearing a skirt in fall doesn’t mean sacrificing warmth in the name of fashion, you can be both stylish and cozy with these tips:
- Layer a jacket, blazer or cardigan. As it gets colder layers can be your friend, the key is to choose heavier fabrics and update your look by choosing an on trend color or fit like I did with my fur vest.
- Swap your blouse for a sweater. Instead of wearing a paper thin blouse, no matter how cute it is, try swapping it out for a sweater that works with your body type and skirt. Bonus points if choose one that you can layer over your blouse.
- Don’t forget the importance of undergarments. Take advantage of camisoles, tights or even spanx, but steer clear of channeling your inner 80’s fashion vibes, if you don’t like to look of tights to add an extra layer for warmth.
- Grab a pair of stylish boots to protect your feet. Don’t forget to pick a pair of weather friendly shoes like booties or trendy calf high boots to keep your feet and legs safe from the chill.
Don’t let the dropping temperatures dictate what you can and can’t wear. If you want to wear a skirt in fall or winter for that matter you have to find ways to make your clothes work for the season. Learning not only how to choose clothes, but techniques on how to make them work with the changing temperatures helps you maximize your closet and saves you money in the long run!
