Buy Buy Buy
After participating in the Fashion + Tech Hackathon this year one of my goals was to be a more conscious consumer. Old me used to treat shopping like a sport. I would visit the malls on a weekly basis, sifting through racks on racks on racks of clothes hunting for the perfect pieces for what felt like an amazing deal. As I began to take my blog more seriously the worse my shopping habit got. But a few years ago when I moved to my new apartment I began to realize that a lot of the pieces I got for what felt like a steal turned out to be very low quality and constantly needed to be replaced. I also noticed that I didn’t really have a defined style which led to a lot of impulse purchases and a closet full of clothes that didn’t really go together. So I started focusing on developing my style. Then I began not only assessing what my clothes were made of but where they were produced as well. While I did much better at making smarter purchases this year, read as scored pretty much all these pieces on sale, it’s crazy to see all my purchases added up and admittedly I did a lot more shopping than I thought-which sadly is probably true for most of us. Those unexpected purchases really add up if you aren’t paying attention. But knowing is half the battle when trying to improve! My goal for 2020 is not only to do 2 to 3 no spend months but also to limit myself to only one purchase a month. I completed a no spend month back in August and discovered so many different outfits hiding in my closet that were overshadowed by my obsession of new purchases. So you can expect to see a lot more of these pieces from 2019 this coming year+ new ways to style them in the new decade! What’s something about your style that you hope to improve in the New Year?
