Let’s face it, our generation is out right now and everything from the past is totally in. First the 60’s then 90’s grunge and now the 70’s, needless to say I’m kind of wishing my mom kept her old clothes so I’d have some stylish vintage pieces. Though I’ve never really been the biggest fan of the style choices of older generations, I thought it would be fun to put together a modern day look inspired by the whole 60’s MOD style.
To get into the MOD style mindset I first chose some garments to set the mood: sunnies, a shapeless coat, a turtleneck dress, a herringbone blazer and OTK boots. Then it was just a matter of how to make it look a little more modern day. By adding a belt cinched at the waist I added some shape back to my outfit which helped to contrast the over-sized coat.
A lot of people struggle with how to wear shapeless pieces like over-sized coats, sweaters and boyfriend blazers. Here are some tips to help add shape and to keep from looking as though your garments are drowning you:
- Pair a fitted outfit underneath an over-sized coat or blazer
- Belt your over-sized garment at the waist to add the illusion of curves
- If pairing an over sized top with looser bottoms, aim for a high-waist rise to help define your curves
