Life after college is not the end of the world. And I am so sick and tired of hearing it is. That the college years are the golden years and everything after is drenched in misery and despair. After seeing what feels like millions of commentaries on what life is like after college I wanted to weigh in. Because seriously, enough is enough.
While you do come face to face with reality, I feel like my life has only gotten better after college. I remember getting my job offer the day I graduated and being so excited about what the future held for me. In my excitement I didn’t realize I agreed to move someplace where I didn’t know a soul while being in a distance relationship only to end up working at a job I despised. On top of that I discovered that the lovely salary I had thought I’d be receiving really wasn’t as much after taxes and let’s not forget the 30k I had in student loan debts, oh and bills. Basically what everyone thinks are the only things that exist in life after college. But even with all that I can confidently say there’s so much more to adulting! And yes I said had student loans, watch my video on how I paid off my student loan debt in under 3 years.
What people neglect to mention is the fact that you make some extremely amazing friends, explore new cities, even if it’s just the one you moved to, reach a new level of independence and really get to shape your life. And personally I’ve created a life I’m happy to be living. Do I work at my dream job, hell no! But it has allowed me to reach all the goals that I’ve set for myself since graduating back in 2013. Well, except get abs. Right after I graduated I read David Ramsey’s book, The Total Money Makeover. And one line that really stuck with me was “live like no one else, so you can live like no one else”. This really helped me put things into perspective. I stuck it out at the job I hated but in return I was able to attend graduate school for free and pay off my student loans early. I’ve even moved into a new role that puts me closer to what it is I see myself doing for the rest of my life. And I have been able to build up Lil Miss JB Style in the process. I mean I’ve even partnered with Coach which is waaaaay better than anything that happened to me in college, besides getting my degree of course!
The thing is, it takes time to reach your goals. It takes work. You have to trust yourself and the process. Is it going to be pretty? No. And it’s also not going to happen how or when you want it to. The important thing is to work towards your dreams but enjoy yourself along the way. You may not be able to make every day better than the last, which is okay, but you can however use each day to make your future better than your past!
