From the moment I slipped, see what I did there, this dress on in the Forever 21 fitting room I fell in love. I had been searching for the perfect LBSD, Little Black Slip Dress and yes I just made that up, for a while that didn’t exaggerate my pear shape. When in doubt about trying a new trend and you don’t want to spend a butt load on what could be a passing fancy, Forever 21 is the place to start looking. There’s something ultra seductive and feminine about a slip dress that I’ve always loved, but of course I had to stay true to my inner tomboy with my accessories. Here are some tips to help you rock a slip dress this fall:
- If you find the idea of the dress by itself too sexual, pair it with a jacket. Choose a longline trench coat that compliments the flow of your dress or try a contrasting material for added depth.
- Wear it with unexpected footwear. Though you can full on fem-fatal with some barely there sandals, opt for some edgy booties or casual sneakers for a model off duty vibe.
- Accessorize as you see fit. Personally I’m very minimal when it comes to jewelry and rely heavily on my shoes or purse to make a statement, but that doesn’t mean you have to. Use your accessories as a way to add personality that work with your look without battling for attention.
Of course you want to make sure that you start with a solid foundation, meaning a dress that works for your frame. There’s nothing worse than wearing something that doesn’t make you look and feel fabulous so make sure you take the time to find a dress that works with your body or get it tailored to perfection if need be.
