The only thing more challenging than finding the perfect pair of leather pants is trying to style them for the office, am I right? For pear shapes finding pants that fit in general is a struggle. The best tip for buying bottoms is to make sure they fit the widest part of your body and get them taken in where needed. A tailor is your best friend!
Now leather pants aren’t safe to wear to work for every job, you definitely have to work in a more creative environment. The safest way to style them for the office is to stay away from skinny styles and opt for a more relaxed fit, this will make them more work friendly. From there, you have a few options of what to pair with your pants such as:
- A button up or blouse, try a front tuck or half tuck for something a little different
- A blazer, belt it like I did above to make it its own top
- A nice tee and blazer
- A sweater
Don’t be scared to dress them down with some sneakers or flats instead of wearing heels. Also try adding a scarf or other accessories to up the outfit’s wow factor!

I imagine the question is mostly for women, but anyway, I’m a guy who has worn leather pants to work quite a few times. I’m not brave enough to wear them when the head of our office (an engineering firm) is there, but on a number of occasions when I know he’ll be gone, I’ve worn them. Our project manager, who is the senior person in the office when my boss is gone, has never said anything. She has actually never said anything about them; I could have been wearing gray dress slacks and her reaction would have been no different. Same with everyone else in the office, except for a college engineering intern (a guy) who complimented me on them. For a garment that is supposedly controversial, I’ve been shocked at how I’ve received basically no response—positive or negative—to wearing them. For what it’s worth, friends of mine tell me I wear them well, and I’ve gotten pretty used to wearing them outside of work.
