If you’ve seen any magazine or website, then you’ll know that the 70’s trend isn’t going anywhere anytime soon, to my dismay. Though the 70’s was the perfect time to be pear shaped, wide leg pants, flared jeans, fitted tops…hello!, I personally never vibed with that era. As much of an old soul as I am, or am told, I think that many people walk a fine line between looking on trend and looking like a blast from the past yet I couldn’t resist these bad boys once I slipped them on! If you’re considering adding some 70’s flair to your wardrobe here are some tips for rocking the 70’s trend, more specifically flare jeans, without looking too retro:
- Pair it with modern accessories. Forego the floppy hat, beads, and slouchy bucket bag and pick more modern accessories like a stiff wide brim hat, structured purse and sleek bracelet. Also opt for sleeker shoes rather than bulky wedges which can make the outfit look bottom heavy.
- Wear an unexpected piece. Instead of rocking a cami or tucked in button up, I went for a cut out top with a front tuck for something a bit edgier and updated. Try to add an unexpected piece to bring your vintage up to date.
- Limit yourself to one or two elements from the 70’s. If you’re rocking flares try not to pair it with colors and patterns from the 70’s or if you choose to rock a color or print keep the fit of the clothes more classic to keep from looking like a Halloween costume.
The goal with trends that you identify work for you and are recycled from the past is to give them a modern yet personal edge. Don’t be afraid to experiment and really take the time to find what works for you, only when you put in the effort can your style truly be effortless!
